Four UW seniors led the charge and helped the pokes secure the ninth place team finish, in their first appearance at the Southern Scuffle.  The UW wrestlers earned 57.5 team points in the field of 31 teams.

During Thursday’s competition Tyler Cox went 2-0 against both Brent Fleetwood and Scotty Parker. On Friday Tyler opened with a major decision victory against Dom Forys. In the semi-final bout tyler lost to Nahshon Garrett of Cornell sending him in the consolation bracket. Cox was defeated again in the consolation Semi’s by Brian Doyle, qualifying him for the fifth place match against Timothy Lambert. He lost a close 3-2 decision to end the tournament in sixth place.

Dakota Friesth had two wins on Thursday to earn his spot in Friday’s competition. Dakota lost his first match on Friday against Alex Dieringer of Oklahoma State sending him into consolation bracket. After a major decision victory against  Brian Dorsey, and a loss to Marshall Peppelman, Dakota qualified for the seventh-place match against Ethan Ramos. He lost a 7-3 bout and finished eighth.

Andy McCulley was UW's top place earner, finishing the tournament in fifth place. Andy went 2-0 during competition on Thursday to earn his way into Friday’s competition. In his first match on Friday against Tyler Wilps of Pittsburgh he lost a 5-2 decision sending him into the consolation matches. He had 2 more victories before a loss in the consolation semis sent him into the fifth-place match against Kyle Crutchmer of Oklahoma State.

After going 1-1 on Thursday, Shane Woods was forced to come back through the consolations on Friday to place seventh. He earned four wins during Friday’s competition to qualify for the seventh-place match against Zach Nye of Virginia. Shane was able to avenge a previous loss to Nye with a 3-1 victory in overtime.
