Due to the nature of what it would entail to host a national or regional USA Wrestling competition, with the first priority being the health and safety of all participants involved, USA Wrestling has extended the postponement of its national and regional events through July 1.
In addition to the 10 national and regional events that USA Wrestling previously postponed through May 10, there are 10 additional events which have now been postponed:
· Western Regional Championships, Farmington, UT, May 14-16
· Northern Plains Regional Championships, Rochester, MN, May 15-17
· Central Regional Championships, Fort Wayne, IN, May 15-17
· Southeast Regional Championships, Wilmington, NC, May 22-24
· UWW U23 & Junior World Team Trials, Geneva, OH, May 29-31
· Southern Plains Regional Championships, Dodge City, KS, June 5-7
· 16U National Duals, Loves Park, IL, June 9-13
· 14U National Duals, Franklin, IN, June 10-14
· Junior National Duals, Tulsa, OK, June 16-20
· USA Wrestling Kids Nationals, Wisconsin Dells, WI, June 25-27
Working with its COVID-19 Advisory Committee and relying on current advice from health and government agencies, USA Wrestling is currently formulating the specific safety measures that must be put in place in order for the resumption of club practice and local or state competitions. Any such activity will only be possible when held under the guidelines set by local and state health authorities and in compliance with the safety measures being developed for the sport.
As this situation regarding this pandemic remains fluid and ever-evolving, USA Wrestling will continue to monitor its policies regarding National and Regional events, sanctioned events and club practices, and additional changes to these policies are possible.

After careful consideration and in accordance with the guidance outlined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Wyoming Amateur Wrestling Association Tournament scheduled at the Casper Events Center on April 16-19, 2020 has been canceled.
According to the CDC.gov website, “Large events and mass gatherings can contribute to the spread of COVID-19 in the United States via travelers who attend these events and introduce the virus to new communities…This recommendation is made in an attempt to reduce introduction of the virus into new communities and to slow the spread of infection in communities already affected by the virus.”
The safety and well-being of our guests, employees, performers, athletes and community is our top priority at the Casper Events Center. Our cleaning procedures are thorough and comprehensive. Following recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and local authorities, our staff is focused on the disinfection of high-touch surfaces, such as doorknobs, escalators, elevator buttons and bathrooms. We have also filled hand sanitizer dispensers throughout the facility.
Our staff, partners and guests are encouraged to follow standard health precautions, such as consistent hand washing and covering coughs and sneezes. We encourage individuals who are sick to stay home. We will continue to closely monitor the situation, so that we can quickly make adjustments should the CDC or local authorities recommend different or amended precautionary measures.
The situation involving COVID-19 is fluid and ever changing. We appreciate your patience, and will continue to provide updates as we are able.
As of today, March 13th, all tournaments through March 22nd have been cancelled by the local clubs hosting them. Per guidance from USA Wrestling, we have been in contact with the Wyoming Department of Health, which in turn suggested that we contact applicable local health departments for guidance on how to proceed. The one county health officer I have been able to contact so far relayed Governor Gordon's recommendation to cancel or postpone any gatherings that could have 250 or more people in attendance. After March 22nd, the Board will make decisions about whether to cancel local tournaments on week-by-week basis after seeking guidance from applicable county health officials. This will not preclude local clubs from cancelling their tournaments independent of the WAWA Board.
As stated before, we still hope to host the WAWA state tournament on April 16-19 at the Casper Events Center. However, due to the ever-changing nature of the situation, the Board will resume talks as we get closer to the tournament to determine whether it should proceed as scheduled.
Thanks
WAWA Executive Board
MARCH 12, 2020
The WAWA executive board has discussed the issue of cancelling tournaments at length today. We have decided that the cancelling of local tournaments will be the sole responsibility of the local club on whether they want to cancel their tournament or not. The only thing that would change this decision is if USA wrestling or Wyoming health department mandates us to cancel.
Also our state tournament is still on as of right now of course we will continue to monitor this situation extremely close and update as needed through this FB page, WAWA website, and club email
I would just ask that you all take the normal precautions of washing hands, etc and if you are sick or feel sick that you stay home.
Clubs having tournaments I would ask that you help take these extra precautions and have hand sanitizer/wipes for all wrestlers, help, and spectators.
Any questions feel free to reach out to any board member.
Thanks
Shaun Carothers
