First off I would like to send out a huge thank you to the University of Wyoming Head Wrestling Coach, Mark Branch for taking time out of his busy schedule to answer some questions.

Q.)How old were you when you started wrestling?
A.) 5

Q.)What was your favorite style of wrestling to compete in?
A.) I only competed in folkstyle until college and it is still my favorite.

Q.)Who is your Favorite Wrestler from the past and why?
A.) Mike Sheets.  He was mean yet classy and was the best leg rider in college wrestling history.

Q.)Now that you have been in Wyoming for a few years and survived the winters, How do like living here?
A.) I love it.  The winters are fine because I’m in a gym most every day and when I’m not I find myself snowboarding which is a new hobby for me.  I used to spend a lot of time wakeboarding in Oklahoma so I’ve just made a transition to snow!

Q.)How important do you think Freestyle & Greco Roman are in building successful college wrestlers, and briefly why do you feel that way?
A.) I think each style helps strengthen certain areas of folkstyle.  Freestyle helps you learn how to finish your shots solidly and Greco really helps you understand positioning and handfighting.  I also think the best wrestlers in this day and age compete throughout the year so it gives you opportunities to progress faster than those who don’t.

Q.)What does it mean for amateur wrestling in Wyoming to have the University named a Regional Training Site by USA Wrestling?
A.) I think we can have a very positive impact on amateur wrestling here in Wyoming with the RTC.  Our staff can be involved and provide opportunities for high school kids and youth here to learn wrestling at a new level.

Q.)How can the wrestling community here in Wyoming or around the region help ensure that your program continues to grow and be successful?
A.) Just show your support.  Come to home matches.  Let our administration know that wrestling IS important here at UW.  Buy season tickets even if you can’t make all the matches.  Try to attend the NCAA tournament and buy the tickets through UW.  These things send a direct message that we are important and that wrestling is strong in Wyoming.
