2016 Freestyle Awards

Governor’s Awards

Our Governor's Award in the Bantam division for 2016 was awarded to  a young man who placed 2nd at the 2016  WAWA State Championships, he placed 2nd at West Kids/Cadet/Junior Freestyle in Pocatello, and 3rd at the 2016 ASICS Kids National Tournament in Freestyle.  We would like to congratulate William Alt from the Touch of Gold Club in Gillette for earning the Governor's Award.

The winner of this year’s Governor’s Award in the Intermediate division had a great season as a second year Intermediate, wrestling all 3 styles at the 2016 WAWA State Championships earning a 3 Style Award.  He went on to represent team Wyoming at the 2016 West Kids/Cadet/ Junior Regional in Pocatello becoming a champion in all three styles, he also received the Outstanding Wrestler award for the tournament having only given up 2 points throughout the tournament.  After doing so well at Western Regionals, he went on to the 2016 Asics Kids Freestyle and Greco Nationals in Wisconsin and placed 2nd in both styles.  Congratulations to Morgan Hatch from the Bridger Valley Bruins on earning this Governor's Award.

The Governor's Award in the Novice division goes to Garrett Fletcher of Top of the Rock Wrestling Club. He is a 9X Wyoming State Champion, a 2X Rumble in Reno Champion, a 3X Wild West Champion, a 3X Rocky Mountain National Champion.  He was the champion of the 2016 WAWA Kids/Cadets Freestyle State Championship, and went on to place 2nd at the 2016 West Kids/Cadet/Junior Regionals in Freestyle in Pocatello, Idaho.

The Schoolboy Governor's Award goes to a young man who wrestles for the Natrona Colts. He placed 5that WAWA Kids State in Freestyle, and went on to place 6th at 2016 West Kids/Cadet/Junior Regionals. In addition to his Freestyle accomplishments, he placed 3rd at Who’s Bad, 2nd at Rumble in Reno, 5th at Terminator World Championships and 5th at Rocky Mountain Nationals.  The 2016 Governor’s Award for Freestyle in the Schoolboy division goes to Samuel Henderson.

The Cadet division Governors Award goes to a young man that wrestles for Moorcroft High School, and the Moorcroft Mat Masters, and has been for the past 13 years. He is a son of Cory and Marci Allison, Tucker has traveled many miles to wrestle in local, regional and national tournaments. Among his USA Wrestling accomplishments, are multiple state titles and a 5th place finish at Folkstyle Nationals in Cedar Falls, IA. He is currently a junior at Moorcroft High School where he has placed in the top four the past three years, this year becoming a state champion at 182. At Jr. State he placed 1st in Greco and 2nd in Freestyle and will be a part of the cultural exchange team on this years trip to Bulgaria.  Next up for Tucker will be the Vegas open in Las Vegas, NV, Cultural Exchange trip to Bulgaria and Fargo Nationals. Congratulations, Tucker Allison.

Our Junior division Governors Award goes to a young man currently wrestling for Powell Community College. He has been a part of the Wyoming USA program and wrestled for the Moorcroft Mat Masters since he was 3.  In that time, he has traveled to many local, regional and national tournaments. He has won numerous state championships in freestyle, Greco and folkstyle through USA Wrestling, as well as placing at regional and national tournaments making him an All-American.  There, he was a 4X Powder River All-Conference Champion, 2X All-State wrestler, runner up in the Ron-Thon in 2016, State Champion in 2016 and triple crown champion. He also broke many of the high school wrestling records in Moorcroft including the most take downs in a season with 255 and career with 526. He continues to wrestle in USA Wrestling open tournaments as well as helping as a referee and coach for the Moorcroft Mat Masters. Tate Allison earned this Governor's Award.

Ashten Hubbs is our Female Freestyle Governors award recipient, she wrestles for the Cody Wrestling Club. She will be wrestling at the Las Vegas Open in a couple weeks and at the Body Bar Women's National Championships in Texas next month. Congratulations!
